Privacy, explained plainly

Your conversation content stays on your Mac.

Charpal was designed so the most sensitive part of roleplay—the story itself—does not need an AI provider’s server.

Stored locally

  • Conversation messages and branches
  • Character cards and custom roles
  • Personas, prompts, and lorebooks
  • Downloaded model files
  • App preferences and local logs

What may use a connection

  • Initial app and model downloads
  • Mac App Store purchase and update services
  • Non-content product analytics and crash diagnostics, where enabled
  • Links you explicitly open from the app

No privacy theatre.

“Offline” describes AI generation and core conversation storage. Charpal does not claim that a Mac running it can never make any network request. Operational telemetry, if collected, is not intended to contain your roleplay messages or character content.
